Duties and Responsibilities of Sections of this Department:
1-Planning Section:
- Has the responsibility to start expansion and development projects of electrical power system after studying the problems and hinders to have the best-needed recourses and to follow up the electrical connection with neighbouring countries and resolutions of Arab Electricity Ministers according to the plan for both middle and far range. Planning Section also supervises the capital plan by all its stages for electrical projects and to follow the work progress.
2-Studies and Researches Section:
- This section studies the electrical power system, the loads, stops, short circuits calculations, stability of electrical power system along with studies about the generation units connection and expansions for near, mid and long range and accidents that may happen to the system. In addition to the economic and technical benefit studies about constructing new power stations, transmissions networks and follow up studies prepared by the Ministrys Departments and directorates.
3-Electrical Loads Management and Distribution Networks Section
- Plan for constructing and distributing networks in coordination with distribution directorates and electrical power cut off programs and follows up the database of those networks also updating the technical qualifications of the networks equipment. To follow up the rationalization policy through starting a consumer understanding, technological methods, electricity tariff, obligations and instructions and new sources of power. Putting and developing technical specifications for generators and diesel stations also studying technical bids to define the economic and technical benefit of diesel stations (regularly used in Iraq).
4-Information Section
- Collecting and documenting all technical, administrative and financial data and put them into annual and mid-annual reports in cooperation with general departments and directorates like electricity forms, the annual letter, technical qualifications and other documentary and statistic activities. Running the World Wide Web with the headquarters departments and sections web, the network exchanging data among headquarters departments and all directorates.
- Preparing database to facilitate department and sections work through making programs and databases in order to automate technical, administrative and financial work.
- Starting the central scientific library.
- The location of the ministry on the Internet.

5-Economic Studies for Electrical Power Section
- e section makes benefit economic studies for new projects and expansions also studies about the tariff, other financial and economic consultation like collection and electric power sales.
6-Quality Standardization and Environment Section
- This section follows up quality standardization and its fitness with international organization for standardization (ISO) and environment, to follow the implementation of this activity in the Ministrys departments and directorates in coordination with the central administrative for quality control with assistance of advising bureaus in universities and specialized offices in this filed.
7-Projects Section
- Projects Section follows up the needs of electrical sector for future projects and new projects approved to be done with parties. Participate in building generation abilities of electrical sector and rehabilitation the existing stations and new generation stations to secure the increasing need of electrical power in the country. Projects Section follows special procedures to execute project steam power stations (strategic). Projects Section is participating in special committees to define its locations, and to give reports about what has been accomplished and financial status in addition to fallow up the procedures and recommendation listed in the visit reports to electrical power projects by special follow-up committees in the Ministry of Planning and Development Cooperation.
